There's Much to be Said For Our Trails

Even during these times of waning daylight and with fall encroaching on my still - in - summer mindset, I manage to have a wonderful time on Livermore's trail system. This time of year, hitting Sycamore Grove just before the sun sets treats a visitor to a host a furry and flying creatures, all in autumn scurry mode, getting ready for the Big Cooldown. The pace of life quickens as the days become shorter.

Tonight I visited the gym after work, after dark, then dropped onto the Arroyo Mocho Trail through town. Meeting all the dog walkers and listening to the night birds start to come out was wonderful; the rush of the creek, that pleasant gurgling of water cruising over rocky breaks is so relaxing after a day of work. From the bridge between S. Livermore and L St, I could sit for hours just to listen to the reassuring music from this urban stream.

My point? You don't have to drive for hours for a nice hike featuring remarkable sights and sounds. What a way for a kid to grow up - walking on one of our trails with Mom and Dad telling stories of walking the same walk with their parents. A time to bond with family, to enjoy some of the most alluringly beautiful parts of our community....we need more of this kind of time, to build memories and communities.
